What We're (I'm) Into Lately

Image
I've been feeling rather uninspired when it comes to the blog lately (as you can probably tell) so instead of some paragraphs, have a bunch of lists! And feel free to listen to this random song Spotify thought I would like, and I do! Nice job, Spotify. Shows We Attempt to Stay Caught Up On But Fail Miserably -Suits -MasterChef -New Girl (jk, we're caught up on this one) -Worst Cooks in America -Elementary (just me) -SuperGirl (just me again) -When Calls the Heart (haha, me) -Arrow (again, juuuuuust me, and I'm like a season and a half behind, so I think I'm going to move it down to the next list.) Shows I've Attempted to Watch But Given Up On -Glee -30 Rock -The Flash Things That Have Happened Recently -We went to see the Newsies Broadway broadcast in theatres a couple weeks ago and it was awesome! Like many (most?) people in the world, I'm not the biggest fan of the Newsies Christian Bale movie, but the stage adaptation is approximately 50...

HC&M: No Me(h) Diga

Image
Hey McBrickers. Been awhile since a good old-fashioned HC&M, no? Happy: -This is my latest favorite musical: (there's some swearing in this version, this is what they performed at the Tonys.) Yes, that is Lin-Manuel Miranda (of Hamilton fame.) I know everyone's all into Hamilton and has been for like the past year, but I just discovered his first musical, In the Heights, and I love it so much more. Mostly because I feel like all the songs in Hamilton kind of sound the same (don't hate me.) The same can be said for In the Heights, I guess, but these songs have that Spanish flair that I just LOVE. I can't explain it. It's just there. I'm the girl who loves music in Spanish but only has a somewhat-rudimentary knowledge of the language. Lo siento. Whatever. Just give the soundtrack a listen and then tell me what you think? Or don't. I won't judge. -How about those Cubs, huh?! HUH?!?!?! I know I'm a bandwagon fan. I get it. But to be fair, I...

I Super Believe in You, Tad Cooper

Image
Hey, extremely loyal McBrickers! Here are some things that have happened in the world since I blogged last: 1. Brad and Angelina broke up. What?! Hollywood is shaking on its hinges! (imagine a full K eye roll here.) 2. The Head and the Heart released a new album (YESSSS) 3. Harvey and Donna held hands on Suits and I'm so happy. 4. Worst Cooks in America is just getting more and more awesome with every season, I swear.  5. BYU women's soccer is on fire! (and so are the Cubs!) Here's some things we've done since I've blogged last: 1. Went to various sporting events (baseball, football, etc.) 2. Watched season 2 of Galavant (and it is spectacular, hence the Tad Cooper!) 3. Gotten completely into Fitz and the Tantrums (I know, I'm late to the party on this one.) 4. C started grad school, year two! More posts to come in the somewhat near future? -K

Music & JAMN

Image
Anyone else just having a bleh day today? I think mine stems from the fact that the Fourth is coming up, and that's usually such a fun holiday in Utah. I miss living so close to the Stadium of Fire (although with Tim McGraw headlining this year, I'm not as sad. Haha. My hatred for country music is still strong as ever!) Oh, you want to know what I'm jamming to now, you ask? Well, it has been awhile since a music post... What K is Listening To Now First off, these all come straight off my Spotify "You Can Do It!!!" playlist. I play it whenever I'm driving to work, because I need a ton of motivation to walk into work sometimes. 1. Left Hand Free, alt+J Well, my left hand's free... I just want to say, first off, that I totally knew this song/loved this song/listened to this song WAY before Civil War came out. #hipster First it hit my Pandora, then it hit a Suits episode. Ah. Suits. Coming back soon! 2. Lean On, Major Lazer  Blow a ki...

Guess What, He's Still Nameless

Image
Here's your two-week update! He's still nameless, although my little sister P says he should be called "Puffy the Girl Slayer". I'm not sure about that one. She did say we could call him "Puff G. Slay" so, there's that. He responded well to that, although even though he'll swim up to the front of the tank no matter what when I come talk to him, so I could probably call him BabyFish for the rest of his life and he wouldn't care at all. Yay. What else, you ask? I know it's been awhile. I got pretty sick this week and am just now starting to feel better. Kudos to C for keeping me and the apartment in one piece. Lots of Gilmore Girls has been consumed this week. and oh my gosh. I love that new people are being added to the cast! Minus Christopher, Dean, and April Nardini. I just... dislike all of them. Ugh. They have no place in the reboot! Go away, people! I also got really into this Netflix reality show called "Sing it On", wh...

Nameless Baby Fish

Image
So baby fish is still nameless. Nothing feels right. I know, it's just a fish. But fish have a right to names that fit them, right? The closest we've gotten to a name that fits is Benny Goodman, because his music was pretty awesome. And also because of this song: I just discovered Saint Motel and I really like their sound. (If you're looking for another good one check out My Type.) So anyway, one time I was listening to this song and Baby Fish was getting all excited, like he does whenever he sees anything or anyone walks by or whatever, and I thought hey - Benny. It kind of works.  But, one day he'll be a big adult fish and then will Benny fit? I don't know. It's like the parents that name their kids cute little pet names when they're little, and then they grow up and have to introduce themselves as Timmy or Scooter. No bueno. GILMORE GIRLS REBOOT IS OFFICIAL!!! I can't even contain my excitement. And I've only known about GG for like three...

Jeffrey Has Taken Ill + Recent Reads

It's Friday! I think the only thing that keeps me going throughout the workweek is that Saturdays, we have nothing. It's blissful. We usually meal plan and grocery shop in the mornings, and then do something fun for the rest of the day. Even if "fun" consists of walking around the huge outlet mall near our apartment. Or we'll take a trip to the two-story Target. Last Saturday we hit up the local Petco for a new fishtank for Jeffrey. Speaking of, he's been very listless lately. He barely makes it off his little leaf to say hi to me when I get home. I think it may be near the end for the little guy. :/ Don't die, Jeffrey! You're my only friend out here! And no, I still have never seen him eat. I don't know what's up with that little dude. Happy thoughts that don't include poor sick Jeffrey... Um... I'm getting back on my CBMR kick this week. I got my compensation book yesterday and I read it yesterday. All of it. At one point I looked u...

Love You Like I'm Gonna Lose You

Image
Basically, if you want to be inside my head right now, this is what it sounds like: I cannot get over this song. I'm done trying. I got off my Wildest Dreams kick and went straight into this one. As well as this one: So yeah, these two songs are basically going off all day, every day. I have a mind for bubblegum pop music, I swear. Want to see my bookshelf? It's basically the one thing we get to ourselves in this dang house. We're going apartment hunting tomorrow and we're finding a place. That's it. There is no other option. But anyway, back to the bookshelf... Cute, right? For someone who only gets a shelf to decorate? Here's what's on there, from left to right: - Trick or Treat sign, AKA our one Halloween decoration. (well we have P's Halloween drawing taped to the wall but I couldn't fit it in the picture...) Thank you Target $1 bin. - Paper crane - We got this when the sister missionaries came to have dinner with us the first...

4300

Image
Guys. I have exactly 4300 pageviews right now. That means that either 4300 people viewed my blog once, or one person viewed it 4300 times. Or, far more likely, a mixture between the two. But people. This is big! Coming from the girl who kept her blog a complete secret three years ago, this is the big time. Granted, some people get these kinds of views on their blog every day, but I'm working up! I have six views today already and I haven't even done anything! My Pitch Perfect post got over 40 views, that was big. I know it was just C making people read my writing but hey, 43 views is 43 views and I'll take it. And remember my friends... Always choose to be offended ;) Always! Because that's the mature thing to do. In other news, I just started Greg Proops' book, "The Smartest Book in the World". (Remember, Greg Proops? Of Whose Line is it Anyway? ) No? Well, sad for you. He's awesome, and so far his book is hilarious. More on that next Wednesday. ...

Thunderstorms

Image
I love thunderstorms, guys. Actually more accurate, I like rain (not so much the thunder and the lightening.) I've really been enjoying the last little bit of rain showers and storms. Me and C went to the Payson Temple open house again yesterday afternoon and the temple looked amazing against all the storm clouds. Again people, GO. I can't tell you enough. Yeah, yeah, the afore-mentioned trip post... I'm at work right now, camera-less, so all my picture are inaccessible. Not to mention my post about the trip is about eight times the size of a regular post. I need to get it edited and sounding better before I post it. It's a lot of random ramblings right now that I wrote at different airports or on planes when I was bored/terrified, and you can tell. In other news, Neon Trees' new single is fantastic. It's most definitely a break-up song, but it's still awesome and deserves a listen. My other favorite group, Maroon 5, is releasing a single on Frida...

Cinco de Mayo

Image
It's Cinco de Mayo! I'm not sure exactly what it celebrates but it celebrates something Spanish, which is awesome! Always looking for a reason to say something in Spanish. Sometimes when I'm bored or feeling lackluster about something, I'll listen to my Spanish workout station on Pandora, mainly because the songs have a lot of energy and I like to see if I can figure out what they're talking about. I know, I need new hobbies. But hey, when something like this hits the radio and you can't get it out of your head, you look up the original Spanish version and figure it out. Also, girls randomly dancing with soccer balls? Seems legit. R. Learn how to do that. The end. Other songs in Spanish I enjoy are "Limbo" by Daddy Yankee (avoid the music video on this one) and Danza Kuduro by Don Omar (yeah, also avoid any music video on this one. I haven't seen it, but it looks slightly scandalous from the screenshot.) The other foreign songs I especiall...

I'm (not) Groot

Image
Well, today is graduation day for the university I work for, so I had to make sure I got to work super early to get a parking spot, and now I'm sitting here counting down the hours until I get to leave. (.5 hours down, 4.5 hours to go...) Although once I go home, that's not a ton better either. Since C works so much going home consists of me picking something to clean, cleaning it while concurrently watching Gilmore Girls or While You Were Sleeping, completing the cleaning process, and deciding to cook something. Yesterday was a crock pot special, not sure what I'll make today. I also attempted making chocolate chip cookies and they ended up okay. I guess C liked them so that's good. I've been a bit wary of cookies ever since my famous oatmeal chocolate chips went to total crap that one time. I've been building my confidence up slowly in that regard. Haha, in other news, just saw the president of the university walking around in full academic graduation regali...

Favorite Things Lately

Image
Anybody else feel like this week has gone on for freaking EVER?! I can't be the only one here. Ugh. But I have gotten a bit done, I suppose. The hedgehog cross-stitch is coming along well, and I finished a book. Anybody read The Mortal Instruments series? I read the first one, City of Bones this week, and while I'm not like "oh my gosh get me MORE", it was drawing enough for me to go to the library and get the next few in the series. And news flash, I thought there were only four, oh no. There are SIX. Which means I unwittingly stepped into a time commitment for these things. Cassandra Clare, you better make this worth it. Although my favorite paragraph had to be: Clary wondered if there were any ugly vampires, or maybe any fat ones. Maybe they didn't make vampires out of ugly people. Or maybe ugly people just didn't want to live forever. I really don't know why I thought this was so funny, but dang. I couldn't stop laughing. I know, I'm terri...

New Year's Eve

Image
It's that time again! Time to write the best blog post of the whole year. You should go back and read last year's if you haven't, it was a lot of fun to write, and this one was too. Without further ado, your theme music: Or you can pick this one, also awesome: Here we go! January This year, January was mostly spent going to the first weeks of my last classes for my undergraduate, the most difficult being anatomy. I put together the puzzle from heck with my family (paint buckets. Who makes a puzzle of PAINT BUCKETS). Me and C continued to date, and even to talk marriage. Meanwhile in the singles ward, our church changed locations and since we had to stop meeting in the building with an elevator, we took one final culminating picture to stick with the bunches of others we took in that thing. February The Olympics started, and me and roommates had a good laugh about how woefully unprepared Sochi was. I continued to almost pass out in Anatomy lab, but finall...

Christmas Eve Eve!

Image
It's my favorite holiday, guys! It's coming!!! :D And in honor of that, have some of my favorite Christmas songs. Since you already heard "Sleigh Ride" last time, I won't bother you with that again. But it is awesome. Let's see... Let's start out with a more upbeat, exciting Kelly Clarkson number: Definitely a fun one. Not super Christmassy, but not bad. If you know me, you know I love Michael Buble, so this next one shouldn't be much of a surprise: Another good one to check out if you've got time? Silver Bells. Melts me every single time.  And now, for my favorite band...   You're welcome. You're freaking welcome.  Those are the only ones in my head right now. I'll post another list if I can think of more favorites.  As far as other Christmas preparations are concerned, I've wrapped most of C's Christmas, and haven't hit anyone else's yet. And can I just tell you - the lines! They...

Random Post (with Cute Animal Highlights!)

Image
Well, today has been extremely mediocre. Went to work, came home. Thought about going shopping, didn't. Thought about cooking something, made Minute rice instead and poured some Yoshida's on it. Not the greatest meal, but better than eating nothing, especially with my picky stomach. This time last year it was some of the worst it's ever been. I'm glad it's been getting better over time. Stomachs are weird organs. You think everything is fine, and then  - BAM! Eat something too salty, sour, or spicy? Your life is about to get a whole lot worse, my friend. For me, it's tomato sauces, salsas, Thai food, Indian food, and really greasy food, like burgers and fries. I love all these things. But they just aren't good for my poor stomach sometimes. And by sometimes I mean most of the time. And by most of the time I mean all of the time. Yep, just inserted a happy turtle, for no real reason, besides that he's adorable! What else h...

Week One

Image
...of my final semester as an undergrad! Woooooohooooo! Since all of you care lots and lots about my life, I'll tell you all about it. What am I taking, you ask? Well... -Technical Communication, which is a total wash. I have taken so many English classes already, why doesn't one of them apply to this one so I don't have to take it? I'm giving this class two stars off the bat because a) it sounds boring, b) I know how to write already, so suck it, and c) it involves group work, which I absolutely detest. So yeah. Two stars, max. -Cell Biology. I'm giving this class a two as well, but for different reasons. There is group work involved, which as I mentioned above, I freaking HATE. Got stuck in an...interesting group, so we'll see how that goes. It's also my professor's first time teaching the class, and he introduced himself by first name...yeah. Coming from a major where the more letters after your name, the better, to have someone introduce themselv...

Since it's New Year's Eve...

Image
You get two posts! But this is just one song, sung two different ways, by my favorite people ever. Enjoy! "What Are You Doing New Year's Eve", first by the Head and the Heart: And now by Zooey Deschanel and Joseph Gordon Leavitt: Awesome song, awesome people. -K

Sunday Nights at Home

Image
They may or may not include: Hallmark (A BRIDE FOR CHRISTMAS) Popcorn & Candy Making fun of our dad Dad making fun of all of us Impossible puzzles (I mean, five billion paint buckets? Are you SERIOUS???) And 500 other random things. For instance, today I learned that my little sister loves making jewelry with tiny rubber bands. I have like six hundred bracelets now...even C got in on the bracelet fun. Now he has some really masculine man jewelry...(read: C's wearing bracelets made out of hot pink rubber bands to make my sister happy...) Also, I missed putting a song on my last post, so here's a couple to make up for it: Sorry it's only 40 seconds long...I own the whole song though...Here's another one to make up for it.. And if you don't like Psych, here's yet another song to make you happy. At least, it makes me happy: -K

Yes, I know...

Image
...It's been awhile. But to be fair, I've been up to a lot lately. Want to hear all about it? Um, why else would you be reading this thing? Here we go! Well, school's out for winter break. I actually got a D in OChem, miracle of miracles. Don't have to take that crap again for awhile. Woohoo! Haha, and I even passed the stupid lab that went with it. Want to know how crappy it went? My TA bought one of those Gandalf stamps that says "You Shall Not Pass!!!" on it and started stamping all my papers with it... Not my lab paper, but you get the idea... Freaking Dan. He said if he could date one of my roommates he'd give me an A. Guess I should have taken him up on that offer. Oh well. It got to the point where he would just wander over to my experiment, take a look, sigh, and then say "Miss (last name here), what did you do this time..." and I'd look at it and go "Hey man, it seems to be going pretty well to me," and he'd...
