Old Crosswords

Well, here's an obligatory update. Haven't been up to much this weekend, a lot of baseball to live-transcribe. Started another book, just a fluffy little best-seller to relax with after Les Mis. Guys. I got 24 likes on my status about finishing it. I'm pretty sure that's more than all my other statuses combined. I'm so legit. But anyways, enough about me. Or is that even a problem, seeing as it's my blog? If you don't want to hear about me and my thoughts, I'm not sure as to why you'd even read this. What else am I up to. Oh yes, crossword puzzles. One of my favorite pastimes. I do them when my other captioning buddy is taking her turn and I have nothing to do. I've gotten good enough to usually finish the Monday or Tuesday puzzles, but I can never can finish any later in the week. New York Times crosswords are hard, man. But I bought this "crossword-a-day" calendar at DI and it was only $3! (because it was from 2010...but whatever...

Guess What!!!

I FINISHED LES MIS!!! YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!! I feel so accomplished right now. I just finished a book with over 1000 pages! I am so legit! Final stats: Book Acquired: December 25th, 2012 Book Finished: May 17, 2013 Pages: 1,232 And what did I think of it? Hmm. Victor Hugo had a lot to say and used a lot of words to say it. While I wasn't a fan of the 15 pages on the Parisian sewer system (you guys already know all about that...) and his other random rants or pages upon pages of descriptions of buildings and cities, the actual story is very moving. While Valjean was never my favorite character, reading the book helped me understand him a lot better. I really enjoyed more backstory on Fantine and the priest that gave Valjean the candlesticks, they have such a rich and complicated past. I dislike Cosette as much as I always did (surprise, surprise), and like Eponine as much as I always did. I also appreciate Gavroche a little more, and don't care as much fo...

Who am I?

I'M JEAN FREAKING VALJEAN ...Jean Valjean! (Bet you weren't expecting that.) Sorry, still on my Les Mis kick. And no,  I haven't finished it yet...Although last week, my friends and I watched the most recent movie AND 25th anniversary edition (Hello, Nick Jonas! And the same Eponine from the movie, who's my favorite character. Every girl identifies with Eponine at least once in her life (or more than once...) Anyway...In case you haven't noticed, I'm not too much like Jean Valjean. I guess I can be pretty withdrawn and have my secrets that I don't like talking about, sure. Plus, even though I've definitely messed up in my life, I still try to do my best to make up for those mistakes. So in that way, I'm kind of like Valjean, but that's about where the similarities end. I'm much more like other fictional characters...like... Iago! "Oh, that's a big surprise! That's incredible - I think I'm going to have a heart at...

Sundays & Sewers

Well, it's Sunday. I'm currently chilling in my living room taking a break from Les Mis (the book, not the movie.) I got the unabridged version for Christmas and I've been trying to get through it ever since, but it's been hard because of school and work, and I just don't have the time for it. Les Mis is a book you have to be able to concentrate on, it's not some light fluffy read. It's also highly frustrating in some parts with the exorbitant amount of details on pointless matters. For example, I'm to the part where Marius has been shot and Jean Valjean is dragging him through the sewers. Except, we can't read about that, because we need to read about the sewers of Paris for...15 pages. It talks about people who inspect the sewers, where they run, blah blah blah. It truly is a test of patience to read this book. But it's funny, because I just transcribed a show at work about big cities, and the last one was on Paris. I'll let you guess wha...
