Nameless Baby Fish

Image
So baby fish is still nameless. Nothing feels right. I know, it's just a fish. But fish have a right to names that fit them, right? The closest we've gotten to a name that fits is Benny Goodman, because his music was pretty awesome. And also because of this song: I just discovered Saint Motel and I really like their sound. (If you're looking for another good one check out My Type.) So anyway, one time I was listening to this song and Baby Fish was getting all excited, like he does whenever he sees anything or anyone walks by or whatever, and I thought hey - Benny. It kind of works.  But, one day he'll be a big adult fish and then will Benny fit? I don't know. It's like the parents that name their kids cute little pet names when they're little, and then they grow up and have to introduce themselves as Timmy or Scooter. No bueno. GILMORE GIRLS REBOOT IS OFFICIAL!!! I can't even contain my excitement. And I've only known about GG for like three...

HC&M: A Meh-morable Week

Image
This was a busy week! And yet, I still feel like I have nothing to say. Happy - I started my job! This job should freaking get its own edition of HC&M. Maybe next week. Suffice it to say I have income now, which means... - We can FINALLY get an apartment! Yay!!! The day we have been waiting for!!! Unfortunately, we didn't find any we liked when we went looking last week. We're giving it another go with Ash, our real estate agent. Turns out Chicago is nothing like Provo. And for all of you who responded to that comment with an overwhelming "DUH", in this instance I'm talking about when finding an apartment. At home, you jump on KSL or you ask around and somebody always knows somebody. Here? A real estate agent is your best bet. He get access to properties that aren't on popular sites like Zillow or HotPads, and best of all, he's payed by the complexes, not by you. So if you know which ones he represents, it's easy to know which ones he'll pu...

Favorite Things Lately

Image
Anybody else feel like this week has gone on for freaking EVER?! I can't be the only one here. Ugh. But I have gotten a bit done, I suppose. The hedgehog cross-stitch is coming along well, and I finished a book. Anybody read The Mortal Instruments series? I read the first one, City of Bones this week, and while I'm not like "oh my gosh get me MORE", it was drawing enough for me to go to the library and get the next few in the series. And news flash, I thought there were only four, oh no. There are SIX. Which means I unwittingly stepped into a time commitment for these things. Cassandra Clare, you better make this worth it. Although my favorite paragraph had to be: Clary wondered if there were any ugly vampires, or maybe any fat ones. Maybe they didn't make vampires out of ugly people. Or maybe ugly people just didn't want to live forever. I really don't know why I thought this was so funny, but dang. I couldn't stop laughing. I know, I'm terri...

First Post of 2015

Image
Well, 2015 has been semi-eventful thus far. Want a list of all I've done so far? Sweet, here you go: Caught and recovered from one awful cold Made some kick-butt Italian herb bread Went to a bridal shower for M Planned and executed a bachelorette party for M Went to the temple to see M get her endowments taken out (yes, the last three bullet points were all for the same person. January is turning into M-month around here.) Started to apply C for five different graduate schools C took the GRE (and did great!) I wore heels to church (trying to break in the heels before M's wedding, but those things were killing me yesterday.)  So that's all I can think of that I've done so far. The most stressful ones for me were the GRE and M's bachelorette party. I was really worried because she was like "Oh, I'm inviting 20 people" and I was like "Um, whaaaaaa?!" but they didn't all come so that was good. Plus she had a lot of crazy people t...

"Holidays Rule"

Image
Do you ever just get up and think, "I hate everyone today" and it sets the tone for the whole rest of the day! That's me today, yay! Do not cross me. Believe me, it is in your best interest. What's new besides my random angst... Got a new office chair this week, and by new I mean already been sat on for like five million years but is new to the front desk. The girl behind me got a brand-new chair, where is the justice here? Instead of getting a new one, the head honcho of the office was like "actually I want a new one, you can have my old one" and I was like, am I supposed to thank her or not? Thanks for the used chair that you've been sitting on for the past decade? I mean, it probably hasn't been a decade, but still. It's the principle of the thing. I hate sitting where I know other people have sat for a long time. It inexplicably makes me uncomfortable. What else... I've been rocking the Indie Holidays station on Pandora because hello,...

Mockingjay Day

Image
Well, as far as my birthday week is concerned (GG reference) it's been okay. Haven't done much. Went to a basketball game to humor C on Wednesday, saw P get a school award yesterday, and tonight S is taking me to see Mockingjay. I'm cautiously excited. I really hated the book so in theory, the movie can't go anywhere but up, right? Ugh. I hope so.  In "K is an idiot" news, this morning I dropped the plug for my half-working blow dryer on my foot. It stung a little but I just figured I was being a wimp, so I put on my toast socks and moccasin-esque shoes and went to work. The stinging just got worse and worse, so at work I took my sock off and lo and behold, I was bleeding to death. Well not to death, but enough to merit a Band Aid. Thank goodness for my travel-size first aid kit I keep in my backpack, even though it's totally knock-off. It saved my favorite pair of socks! Aren't they awesome??? My favorite pair of socks, by far. So that happ...

Unsatisfactory Toast & A Halloween Decoration

Image
So a little backstory behind the title of this post - once upon a time, I lived in freshman dorm housing. I really should write about that on here, there were some dang good times. But anyway, at the cafeteria where we all ate there was this awesome bread called "Grandma Emilie's". It was awesome, it was multigrain, it was the best wheat bread I'd ever had. But guess what? When Hostess went under, it turns out it owned whoever made Grandma Emilie's bread. And I haven't been able to find it since :( Pathetic, I know. But I just tried a new wheat bread and made toast with it and I'm telling you, nothing lives up to Grandma Emilie's. Anyway, so after that pointless story, um... Yes. Well, Halloween is coming, and we are soooo good at decorating. Observe our decoration!  Yes, we have one decoration, which my little sister P made for us. It's a little paper ghost, which we've hung from our bunting. Isn't he festive?  ... ...

Blah Day

Image
Well friends, it's that time again, that time when I feel like doing absolutely nothing, but if I know that if I do nothing I'll hate myself, but if I do anything I'll hate myself for doing something the whole time I'm doing it.  Make sense? No? Great... How about I give you a summary of my last week? It could potentially be interesting! I'll give you a breakdown: One season of Gilmore Girls watched - (Season One. Side note: Dean? Get away, Dean. Nobody likes you. Go home. Get a haircut. Boo Christopher... Also, forgot how much I hated Paris, forgot how much I loved Michele. If that's how you spell his name, that is... Should I be tagging these with spoiler alerts? I forgot all about Chad Michael Murray in the first season too...  Can't wait until Jess shows up...  I mean, come on. Out of all of Rory's boyfriends, Jess is definitely the best. (He's the middle one, non-Gilmorians.) One doctor visited - Don't worry, it wasn't for ...
