Hot Tamales All Around!

Image
Today is a good day, friends. Know why? It's Mom's birthday!!! Mom & Dino P Instead of sharing a sappy story about all the things I love about her, or writing an acrostic poem with all the letters of her name (first, middle AND last, of course) I decided to share a story that really sums up how awesome my mom is.  My mom teaches at a smaller elementary school that is very close and friendly-neighborhood-feeling, where everyone kind of knows everyone else. They have a lot of fun traditions and activities that they do every year. One of those is a big kickball tournament between the older grades, and whatever team wins that tournament gets to play the teachers. My mom likes sports and being active. She lettered in soccer in high school, so she knows how to kick a dinky little kickball. But of course, what student looks at their mom-aged fifth grade teacher and goes "Oh yeah. I bet she'd be good at kickball!" Nobody thinks that. I never thought that ab...

It's Party Time, Chumps

Image
America party time, that is! The Fourth of July was awesome, as always. Since it's one of me and C's favorite holidays it's always a fun day.  This year brought the afore-mentioned Candy Bomber, which was amazing. He flew over three times with two other planes with him, and it was awesome. History! I saw history! I got to see one of my favorite people in the whole world do what I've always want to see him do. It was amazing.  Waiting for the flyover to start. We didn't dare attempt to enter the hordes of people at Scera Park, so we hung out by a  nice business building across the street and got to sit in the shade on nice grass :) First flyover. Didn't get the third plane in the picture, but whatever.  Halvorsen was in the big plane on the bottom.  Yesssssssssss There he is! Yay parades! (sorry for the picture B, but I just like it for no explainable reason. Your face definitely has something to do with it though...) And can I just say, if...

The Trip Pt. 1

Image
Finally, the post you've all been waiting for!  THE TRIP! Part one! I survived four planes! However, I’ve been highly disappointed so far in our airports, because there are no members of the Amazing Race running around, and it’s always been my dream to see The Amazing Race in person (especially the episode where they roll cheeses...) Our first plane stop took us on a scenic sky voyage to Seattle, where we resided for approximately enough time to buy and eat a cup of oatmeal. I am highly entertained by all the tiny trucks and carts airports use to transfer things. And when I saw that the trucks that hold the food that’s going into the plane could raise themselves up (like in the below picture), I was freaking out. How cool is that? Magic! Our next sky-venture took us from lovely Seattle, where you can smell the ocean in the air, to Philadelphia, which smells like city. Want to know what city smells like? Sewer. Sewer and questionable-looking greasy food bein...

So I work in an office now, which is great because it's usually pretty quiet and boring. Especially right now, because everyone else is in staff meeting and somebody has to be left behind to "answer the phones". Funny story, the only person that has called today was looking to make an appointment with their dentist. Here's the deal, people. I work in a business office. We have nothing to do with dentistry. Why she would call me I have no idea. Plus then I was like "I think you have the wrong number, I can try to transfer you to someone who can help," and she just like... kept talking. Lady. It doesn't matter how many times you say the words "I need to make an dental appointment," it doesn't matter IF YOU'RE NOT TALKING TO YOUR DENTIST. *sigh* Me while talking to aforementioned person... "WHATTTT" So that happened. But other than that, not much has gone on. It's funny because those who know me know I draw comics all t...

Independence Day & 30.06s

Image
Guys. I love America. And since I've been sitting here watching "America: The Story of Us" on the History Channel, I love it even more. Want to learn some cool facts? Okay.  General George Washington inoculated his soldiers with smallpox to try and slow the outbreak. Awesome!!! Everyone that built the Erie Canal was essentially drunk the whole time. Whaaaaaa... Abraham Lincoln took care of his dying mother when he was just eight years old. In 1874 locusts ate half of all the crops planted in the West. The swarm was as allegedly as big as Colorado, so many that they blocked out the sun. Rather unpleasant. But within 30 years they went extinct! YESSSSSSS Guns used on the Union side of the Civil War could shoot almost twice as far as current sniper rifles used today.  Me shooting a 30.06 - not the guns used then, but I wanted a reason to post this... Well, we've only gotten to westward expansion, so we'll see how many more random facts I can learn. ...

Biopsies & Busted Cars

Well friends, it's been awhile, and thanks to the "gentle proddings" of R, I have decided to update yet again.  What's up. What's new with me, you ask? Well, a few things. Media Day went really well. Got to see my favorite football coach EVER like 20 feet away from me talking to all his old quarterbacks before recording a live broadcast. Probably one of the top 20 moments of my life. He is really funny. You wouldn't think it from his demeanor on the field, but he's got quite the sense of humor. Media Day and Dress up Tuesday were fun because bosslady was gone, so we got to hang out and be chill. I got to talk to some of my cool coworkers for awhile without getting dirty looks shot at me or "work, please" thrown in my face. Awwwwwwwwww yeah.  "This is me...Hugging you...Over the airwaves...mmmmmm..MMMMMM...mmmmm" +10 points if you you can tell me this episode! Anyway. So work was more chill, but she came back on Th...

Guess What!!!

I FINISHED LES MIS!!! YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!! I feel so accomplished right now. I just finished a book with over 1000 pages! I am so legit! Final stats: Book Acquired: December 25th, 2012 Book Finished: May 17, 2013 Pages: 1,232 And what did I think of it? Hmm. Victor Hugo had a lot to say and used a lot of words to say it. While I wasn't a fan of the 15 pages on the Parisian sewer system (you guys already know all about that...) and his other random rants or pages upon pages of descriptions of buildings and cities, the actual story is very moving. While Valjean was never my favorite character, reading the book helped me understand him a lot better. I really enjoyed more backstory on Fantine and the priest that gave Valjean the candlesticks, they have such a rich and complicated past. I dislike Cosette as much as I always did (surprise, surprise), and like Eponine as much as I always did. I also appreciate Gavroche a little more, and don't care as much fo...
