Hola, amigos/gringos... Today's my last day not working on a Friday. Next week I move to a five-day workweek again (gag.) I love this four days a week thing. My sisters visited last week! They were quick to remind me that their trip must be blogged about, so that's coming soon. It was great to have them here. They taught me how to Dutch braid and I taught them about Illinois. We spent a lot of nights just hanging out, talking about nothing and everything. It was awesome. I miss them. The apartment is a lot quieter now. And less full of stuff. (They were great houseguests and packed light, but still, we were definitely pushing the limit for how many people we could fit in here.) My friends all had their babies! And they're all cute. Good job, friends. Me and C are still debating on what/if we'll participate in our ward talent show. We'd like to do something funny, but not stupid. It's a fine line to walk. The sisters helped us brainstorm while they were o...

HD Continued

Okay guys. I just finished season one of HD and I have a few thoughts that refuse to be kept in until I write an actual post. If you ever plan on watching this show SKIP. SKIP NOW TO THE ***. THERE BE SPOILERS IN THESE WATERS. 1. Okay. Zoe Hart is okay-cute, right? But is she cute enough to deserve the adoration of all the single men in Bluebell? NOOOOOOO way. 2. Show's getting a little sleazy. Might not make it all the way through this one. I could literally read all the synopses on this show and be totally fine not wasting my time on sleazy crap. 3. While the idea of a "Who gets to keep Zoe? Wade or George?" battle is intriguing, it also sounds terribly immature and not fun. 4. I thought Wade's scruff face would grow on me. It hasn't. 5. I thought Lemon would grow on me. She hasn't. Also, I finally figured out her dad's name is Brick. Brick? Might as well call the guy Dirt. Or Ficus. I mean, come on. This is the end of my impromptu HD post. ***...

52 Newbs

Image
Well, since I got a jump of 52 views yesterday, um, hi, new people. Hope you like what you read. If not, I guess just click away to something better. But let's be real, people. What's better than reading my random blog? Nothing! Well, except this: And this:  And this:  You know what? Fine. There are lot of things better than this blog. But not too many! (But come on, that pic of Nathan Fillion? Freaking adorable. Plus, Castle was nice Monday night in that most of my questions were answered, and I am no longer terribly annoyed that he missed his wedding day and ran away for two months. Yay!) Well, in personal news, last Thursday was the annual Hope of America, and this year P got to be in it! She got to be a red shirt, or a stripe on the flag. Much better than being a yellow perimeter shirt. Although a couple of years ago my mom's class got to wear the yellow shirts and sit on the floor, and that was pretty cool. You know what's even cool...

P and the Amazing Sparkly Egyptian Costume

Image
Well friends, the time has come. P's acting career has commenced! And it commenced with a bang, that's for sure. Despite having songs from Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat stuck in my head every single second (I did see the play four times after all...) it was a fun weekend of play-seeing. It was so interesting to see the difference from the first night to the last night. The first one everyone was kind of nervous and timid, but by the last night they looked like they were having the time of their lives up there. It was completely adorable. And while I'm not completely in love with the movie version (Donny Osmond in a glorified diaper, anyone?) the live play version was so much better. Or maybe it's just more fun when someone you know is in it. Either way, much better than the movie, and P is adorable. Period.  I mean, is the loincloth/diaper really necessary? Can he not just wear tattered overalls like the kid in the play did?  Her costumes ended up l...

Fall Break

Image
Guess who's on fall break? Not me, that's who! Although I'm quite enjoying the silence of the student-deprived hallway outside, that's for sure. The few of us here are listening to music, shredding things we never have time/need to shred, or just sitting eating Goldfish and blogging (yours truly!) There is literally nothing to do. I'm to the point where I'm debating whether or not it would be worth it to alphabetize the mail. It's that bad. Although, we did get a Lego catalog in the mail today. Man. Legos are a lot more expensive if you get them in like a five-million piece set. Although I'm seriously tempted to save up for Metalbeard's boat, because look! If I do, I can build the double-decker couch! And that idea is just...the best. Right? Need. I'm not really obsessed with the Lego movie or anything, I just like building stuff. Last Christmas I spent the whole morning helping P build her Lego haunted castle thing. Good sisterly bonding t...

Unsatisfactory Toast & A Halloween Decoration

Image
So a little backstory behind the title of this post - once upon a time, I lived in freshman dorm housing. I really should write about that on here, there were some dang good times. But anyway, at the cafeteria where we all ate there was this awesome bread called "Grandma Emilie's". It was awesome, it was multigrain, it was the best wheat bread I'd ever had. But guess what? When Hostess went under, it turns out it owned whoever made Grandma Emilie's bread. And I haven't been able to find it since :( Pathetic, I know. But I just tried a new wheat bread and made toast with it and I'm telling you, nothing lives up to Grandma Emilie's. Anyway, so after that pointless story, um... Yes. Well, Halloween is coming, and we are soooo good at decorating. Observe our decoration!  Yes, we have one decoration, which my little sister P made for us. It's a little paper ghost, which we've hung from our bunting. Isn't he festive?  ... ...

Blah Day

Image
Well friends, it's that time again, that time when I feel like doing absolutely nothing, but if I know that if I do nothing I'll hate myself, but if I do anything I'll hate myself for doing something the whole time I'm doing it.  Make sense? No? Great... How about I give you a summary of my last week? It could potentially be interesting! I'll give you a breakdown: One season of Gilmore Girls watched - (Season One. Side note: Dean? Get away, Dean. Nobody likes you. Go home. Get a haircut. Boo Christopher... Also, forgot how much I hated Paris, forgot how much I loved Michele. If that's how you spell his name, that is... Should I be tagging these with spoiler alerts? I forgot all about Chad Michael Murray in the first season too...  Can't wait until Jess shows up...  I mean, come on. Out of all of Rory's boyfriends, Jess is definitely the best. (He's the middle one, non-Gilmorians.) One doctor visited - Don't worry, it wasn't for ...

Katelyn Goes Back to 5th Grade

Image
So little fifth-grade P calls me up the other day, and this is what went down: P: Katelyn? Me: Yep, it's me. What's up? P: Um... Well, can you be my special guest for "Bring a Friend to School Day" at my school? Me: Sure! That'd be awesome! P: Grandma's out of town or I would ask her. Me: ... But it's okay! I was still excited to get to see P (and my mom) in their working environments. I remember when my mom would come to my classroom in elementary school and volunteer to read with groups or whatever, and it was always awesome. So I show up to Bring a Friend to School day super excited, like yeah! I remember elementary school! It was super easy! Woo! First we had an assembly where they all sang songs and we cheered for them, and then we went and met them in their classrooms and they showed us around and we ate cookies. Here's a few conversation snapshots of that day: Me: Hey Mom, how's it going? Mom: Other teacher is gone, basically i...

Dress Shopping

Image
Guys. Planning a wedding is not as easy as TLC makes it out to be. Or as dramatic. So I went wedding dress shopping with my sisters. And it was fun, and exciting, and there were all these fun things that happened, but it was also just...weird. Like take for example when your sister picks out this weirdly shaped dress and is like "PLEASE try this on, I bet it'll look so much better on you than on the hanger!" And you're like "Um, maybe...? Put it on the pile." And the pile is growing and growing until the poor sister stuck holding the dresses is no longer visible under a massive pile of white tulle. Good thing little P didn't go or she might not have survived the expedition. But first, you have to find a store that's both in your price range, your style, and not ugly. It's harder to find than you think. The first one we went to was gorgeous. Totally awesome. But then you look at a price tag and you're like "Whoops...I think I came i...

2013 In Review

Image
Seeing as it's the last day of 2013, I figured I would reflect back on my year, and unfortunately, as my readers, you are forced along on the journey with me. Ha ha ha! So we start with... January January was pretty fun. I retook the first half of OChem (which sucked like every other time I've ever mentioned OChem), hung out with the awesome half of my apartment (remember back when I lived with the crappiest people in the world??? SO glad that's over...), saw all the guys from Kid History in person, and played a lot of Just Dance. Me and my roommates like drawing comics...Yeah. February February was a rough one (read: boys suck). I was again grateful for my good roommates and friends. I don't know all that much about what happened in February...A lot of studying at the kitchen table, eating microwave popcorn and Pringles. Ooh, and those red cinnamon gummy hearts they sell at Macey's during the Valentine's Day season. Dang, those are good. Let's s...
