Slightly Unintentional Hiatus

Image
I know, the blog has been spotty at best the last few weeks. I'm sorry(?). While I once sat at work doing hardly anything and had lots of time to plan out posts and find pictures, etc, now I spend all my spare time Chicago-ing (read: I look for jobs, apply for jobs, look for housing, email about housing, fb message C about things he's doing and jobs he's applying for, etc.) It takes about all the time I have right now. And while I'm looking forward to having more time to write on this blog someday, that day is not today. I am feeling rather conflicted today. Go Set a Watchman  came out, and while I really really REALLY want to read it, should I? Was Harper Lee taken advantage of? She said multiple times she never wanted to publish another book after To Kill a Mockingbird , and then all of a sudden, at 89, suffering from dementia, and in a rest home, she decides she wants to publish it? I find that highly questionable. :/ I feel like she may have been taken advantage o...

It's Party Time, Chumps

Image
America party time, that is! The Fourth of July was awesome, as always. Since it's one of me and C's favorite holidays it's always a fun day.  This year brought the afore-mentioned Candy Bomber, which was amazing. He flew over three times with two other planes with him, and it was awesome. History! I saw history! I got to see one of my favorite people in the whole world do what I've always want to see him do. It was amazing.  Waiting for the flyover to start. We didn't dare attempt to enter the hordes of people at Scera Park, so we hung out by a  nice business building across the street and got to sit in the shade on nice grass :) First flyover. Didn't get the third plane in the picture, but whatever.  Halvorsen was in the big plane on the bottom.  Yesssssssssss There he is! Yay parades! (sorry for the picture B, but I just like it for no explainable reason. Your face definitely has something to do with it though...) And can I just say, if...

Mehhhhhh

Image
Do you ever just have a day that ends and you're like "You know what? I would have been perfectly okay if this day had never happened." Yeah, had one of those last week. And as is practice among people that are adults when this happens, I'm trying to think of good things that have happened lately, as opposed to dwelling on the meh. Unfortunately, adult mode is not working well today, but we'll try our hardest. Good Thing #1: C no longer has to pay an extra underage fee for renting cars! We can rent cars at the advertised price now. Yay...! (working on the excitement level here) Good Thing #2: I remembered to grab a strawberry PopTart on my way out the door today. Good Thing #3: We have cookies and cream ice cream sitting at home for me when I get back tonight. Also a few mini cheesecakes are left from C's birthday so I'll just eat one of those and be happy. Also, raspberries, the best fruit of all. Good Thing #4: My allergies have calmed down a lot...

Spring

Image
Well, it's been another wacko week, people. Got really sick last week around Wednesday and have been trying to recover from that. C was a nice boy and went and got me some pebble ice, Sprite, and Saltines, so I have on a diet of approximately five Saltines and half a cup of icy Sprite a day. Well, I was. I'm all better now. But man, how many times have we gotten sick this year already? If you count the whole Christmas fiasco, I've been sick... twice and C has been sick twice too. The crap? Whoever's throwing pathogens at us, please desist. In other, happier news, P's play is this weekend! I'm excited to go see her do whatever she's doing, she plays like five thousand parts so whatever. I also have no idea how I'm supposed to find her onstage because I feel like everyone there will look the same and I won't have her cute little red hair to find her (I guess it'll be hidden under hats and headbands and crap). I mean, I practically made all ...

Go Ospreys

Image
Have this gif C sent me. Make sure you watch the "Go Ospreys" sign in the background: Click here for the video, you won't be disappointed. What else is going on... C's neck is almost completely back to normal after it's weird pain attack, so that's good. If I ever have to visit an ER again it will be too soon. Still waiting on the bill as well, so that should be fun to receive. Speaking of fun to receive, guess who got into graduate school??? C did!!! (Cue spazzy dance from above.) Of the four we've applied for, he's gotten into two and hasn't heard from the other two yet. It's a relief to know that even if every other school says heck no, we still have somewhere to go! Now the debate is choosing between Chicago and West Chester, Pennsylvania. I am scared - no, terrified - to move out of state to somewhere where we have no family. But my parents did it twice, so I figure I can do it too. I'm just stressed about the apartment ...

It's February!

Image
So this was basically my January... It's February and that's cool with me. January is such a lame month, right? I mean, I love wearing sweaters as much as the next person, but I'm just so tired of being cold all the time. Ugh. And it wasn't even that cold! January was also a stressful month. Finances are tight, and applying for grad school is not cheap. Three apps are in and one is almost done! We're just waiting on a letter of recommendation and we're good to go, which feels awesome. It was a lot of hard work to research, apply, and get everything done. I almost don't know what to do with myself now that it's pretty much all in the hands of the universities. Aaaaaaand we won't know for probably a couple of months whether he got in or not. The suspense! Are there some good things about January? I guess so... Men's volleyball is back in town, and because January was the Month of M we never got to go to any, but this weekend we're hitt...

Things I Don't Understand

Image
I'm out of blogging ideas at the moment, I know I had some earlier today, but I can't remember them anymore. Story of my life. I misplaced my little notebook where I write everything and anything, so my little list is gone. So here, have a list of things that I don't like! 1) The words hubby, hubs, hubster, husby, and any other word to call your husband besides "husband". 2) The Bachelor. Why? Why does this show exist? Besides providing the office with laughter on Tuesday morning, that is. However, listening to Frankie, DB, and Jess tear it apart every Tuesday makes it all worth it. 3) Stupid people. Yes, I know this is on every list I have ever made of things I dislike but believe me, it's there for a reason. Especially when stupid people want to be catered to. Ugh. Just let natural selection take its toll on these people. I know it doesn't exactly fit here, I just really really like it.  4) Turtlenecks. Do they work for Wolowitz? D...

Post-Birthday Update

Image
One year older (and wiser too?) Who knows. According to the eye doctor (Mom bought me new contacts for my birthday!!!) I look 18, so that's cool. I actually don't mind looking young, it throws people off and makes me laugh. So yeah, new contacts! I love them! Being able to see is great, people. And one more year and I'm eligible for LASIK, which has been my dream ever since I first got glasses. Other stuff going on...Mockingjay was actually really good and really intense. If you've read the book, you know some... unexpected things happen and it gets intense fast. Plus, we snuck in cookies and cream popcorn to the theatre, best choice ever. (And yes, I do spell theatre the Olde English way...) C put up a photo wall for my present - it's was so cute! I'll have to put up a picture soon, but he hung up all these pictures and it's adorable. I got a new purse which I desperately needed, so excited to use it. Also got a new work cardigan, everyone knows those a...

PMGU #2.5: Support cont.

Image
Guess who's car is broken again... MINE! *rolls eyes* As C kindly pointed out, it was exactly a year ago the poor thing broke down too. Apparently it and Harry Potter's birthday don't mix. Happy Birthday Harry, by the way. C thinks it's crazy, but whatever, man. I grew up with that guy. I still remember being so so so excited when I got Prisoner of Azkaban for my birthday, my very first HP book that was all mine! *HP nerdiness over*  Wait, just a little more. Haven't been on Pottermore in awhile, but I'm totally a Ravenclaw. Awwwwwwwwww yeah. Testify. Anyway, back to my life. So C had another game today. He even caught a touchdown pass, yay! And yes, I could tell it was a touchdown, for those who are wondering from the last post, haha. But his team still lost, unfortunately. Although the next team playing after him had two guys I used to caption for all the time when I worked sports captioning, so that was super weird. I felt like I should b...

School & Crap Like That

Image
Well folks, the semester has officially started, and I am not excited. OChem is laaaaaaame but at least my teacher has a personality this year... But the lab is even worse. At least when you're sitting in a lecture hall if you mess something up you won't blow anything up. But in lab? Good luck, buddy. Good luck. At least so far I haven't messed anything up too badly, although all my experiments have gone wrong in some way... But good news! Today I didn't mess anything up too badly. But we were only doing chromatography, so it wasn't a big deal. Dump some methylene chloride in a jar, put some stuff on your test strip, and let the capillary action go to work. Woo. So in the end, I didn't end up blowing anything sky high... In other news, choir should be good this semester. Patrick's already cracking the whip on vowels, which I appreciate so much. A choir without good vowels is like popcorn without M&M's. It's just sad. Other classes...my ...

Fine...A Real Post

Image
So C has informed me that's not a real post, and it puts him in a bad light. To which I replied: But he didn't like that either, and he was like: And I was like: AKA "Don't mind me, just eating my popcorn..." So for real, what's going on? My roommate had a quarter-life crisis and bought a gigantic flat-screen TV, so that's awesome. And then my OTHER roommate bought a Wii, and we were like: Sweet! So many Just Dance parties are going to be going down very very soon. Except...they're all starting school tomorrow and I don't start until next week, so they'll be sadly doing schoolwork and I'll be partying. And another good thing about this TV - it has an HDMI hookup. So now we can hook up our laptops and watch Psych on Netflix again! (If you can't tell from gif overload, I'm very excited about this.) -K

Two Weeks Later...

Image
I've heard from multiple people it's time to update again. Last time I wrote was....a couple weeks ago....Yeah. Never fear, I'm still into Duck Dynasty... ...THIS girl got to be a maid of honor... ...And also took the GRE... ...went to a Real game with THIS boy :) ...worked a few soccer games...along with her 40 hours a week...and lots of other stuff that I can't think of right now.... On the fun side of things, we had to move all of our furniture out of our living room so they could clean our carpets yesterday, and we just haven't moved them back yet, so we have all this room in our room. Just Dance parties are definitely going down in the near future. -K Current song stuck in my head? Well, if you really want to know...

DD & the Daily Grind

Image
Pretty sure the worst part of vacation is going back to your regular life. It's fun the first day back when everyone's like "Hey I missed you!" and you're like "oh, stop it, I know, (meaningless questions about their life, my trip, blah blah blah...) It's been nice to be making money again though, I need it for school. Here's what I'm listening to while I type this: Good stuff. Not much of importance has happened lately. Ooh! Went to the dentist and got a cavity filled without being numbed up. That's right. No injections for me! Now before you start getting all "Wow Katelyn, aren't you masochistic...", it didn't hurt, it was a small cavity, my dentist said it was fine. I hate being numbed up. I will do almost anything to not have people inject things into me. In all seriousness. Last time I went to the dentist the power went out and that was awkward, so this time went a lot better. I still hate dentists though. ...
