HC&M: No Me(h) Diga
Hey McBrickers. Been awhile since a good old-fashioned HC&M, no?
Happy:
-This is my latest favorite musical: (there's some swearing in this version, this is what they performed at the Tonys.)
Yes, that is Lin-Manuel Miranda (of Hamilton fame.) I know everyone's all into Hamilton and has been for like the past year, but I just discovered his first musical, In the Heights, and I love it so much more. Mostly because I feel like all the songs in Hamilton kind of sound the same (don't hate me.) The same can be said for In the Heights, I guess, but these songs have that Spanish flair that I just LOVE. I can't explain it. It's just there. I'm the girl who loves music in Spanish but only has a somewhat-rudimentary knowledge of the language. Lo siento. Whatever. Just give the soundtrack a listen and then tell me what you think? Or don't. I won't judge.
-How about those Cubs, huh?! HUH?!?!?! I know I'm a bandwagon fan. I get it. But to be fair, I actually *live* here, and have *been* to a couple Cubs games, and I actually *get* most of the traditions, etc (as opposed to all those posers I'm seeing on my FB...) I don't know. I'm just making excuses for myself. But you should see the city right now. It's on fire. There are shops on every corner selling knock-off Cubs gear, and people are wearing Cubs stuff to work, church, and everywhere in between. All you hear when you go out in public are people talking about the Cubbies. These people are HUNGRY. I doubt Cleveland is this excited. But who knows, maybe? Anyone from Cleveland care to chime in? Either way, if nothing else, living here has been made much more interesting lately. For instance, one legitimate question posed in Sunday School was "How can we get as excited about sharing the gospel as we do about the Cubs?" This is where we're at, people.
-We are down to less than a month until the Gilmore Girls Revival!!! And this trailer makes me identify like 50000x times more than I already did with Rory (and this is coming from the girl who used to pack multiple books to read for fun at school, just like Rory. Not schoolbooks. Book books.)
Crappy
-Who wants to hear about how much I dislike my job? Anyone? I'll tell you anyway. This job is the WOOOOOORST. *Jean Ralphio singing* The good thing about it is that I get Veteran's Day off, and then two days off for Thanksgiving! Woohoo!
-Does anyone else hate when sick people come to work because they "can't afford to take the day off", and then they infect the rest of the office, who then "can't afford to take the day off"?! Take one for the team and GO HOME. It's called sick pay, people.
Meh
-Guess who got put in charge of the ward Halloween party? The hardest partiers of the ward, AKA me and C! And if any of you have actually *met* either me or C, then you know that sentence was total and compete garbage. Hahahahahahaha *cries* It happened, and we pulled it off, and people were fed, and kids trunk or treated, and it was fine. One compliment we got was literally "There are actual tablecloths on the tables this year!" :| Go us? (Are tablecloths not standard...? I mean, they were just plastic, it wasn't *that* fancy...) It was also the first time since we've been married that me and C have bothered to dress up. I would put a picture on here but we didn't take any since it was so busy. Someone in the ward did take some photos so I assume it'll show up sometime, somewhere. Hopefully it's not too unflattering.
-I'm on a mediocre book streak. Out of the three books I read last week (Cold Sassy Tree, The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time, and Anatomy of a Misfit), none of them were that great. It was disappointing, especially since The Curious Incident was a NY Times best-seller. Anyone else read this one? Did I just not "get" it? And as far as Misfit is concerned, is all YA lit going the way of the five thousand f-bombs in every chapter, or is that just the ones I've read recently? And in regards to Cold Sassy Tree, what the crap was that book even about? It was like a bad take on To Kill a Mockingbird, at least to me. Maybe I've been reading too many YA books and my brain is turning to mush. Ah well. At the end of the day, I'm just glad I bought those suckers for 50 cents from the library so I won't feel bad getting rid of them. Bleh. AND I have like 10 more to get through! Thank goodness for our library and their amazing book sales!
Been a busy couple weeks, guys. Looking forward to stuff slowing down so I can get back to this blog more often.
Later,
K
