HC&M: Fantastic Mehs and Where to Find Them

Image
Here we go, friends. The great month of November is over... Happy: -...which means we get to move into the great month of December! Home of Christmas! And Christmas music! And Christmas treats! And everything else Christmas! And N's birthday! -November ended up being okay. My birthday was a lot of fun, we had a good Thanksgiving, and enjoyed the break after C's hard semester to just hang out and catch up. It's funny because I live with C, and yet for the last couple weeks we've hardly hung out at all, thanks to school.  It's cool. I like having alone time. But it's fun to hang out with your best friend again. I missed him. -C really pulled out the stops for my birthday. He took me to a cake decorating class and I got to learn a couple good techniques for decorating/piping cakes. Sadly, I do not have the equipment to do what we did there, but it was fun to do for an afternoon. We also tried this awesome place called !Bang Bang! Pies, and it was rea

HC&M: No Me(h) Diga

Hey McBrickers. Been awhile since a good old-fashioned HC&M, no? Happy: -This is my latest favorite musical: (there's some swearing in this version, this is what they performed at the Tonys.) Yes, that is Lin-Manuel Miranda (of Hamilton fame.) I know everyone's all into Hamilton and has been for like the past year, but I just discovered his first musical, In the Heights, and I love it so much more. Mostly because I feel like all the songs in Hamilton kind of sound the same (don't hate me.) The same can be said for In the Heights, I guess, but these songs have that Spanish flair that I just LOVE. I can't explain it. It's just there. I'm the girl who loves music in Spanish but only has a somewhat-rudimentary knowledge of the language. Lo siento. Whatever. Just give the soundtrack a listen and then tell me what you think? Or don't. I won't judge. -How about those Cubs, huh?! HUH?!?!?! I know I'm a bandwagon fan. I get it. But to be fair, I

K&C Go to Various Sporting Endeavors

Image
Hey, look, a picture of K talking about what she likes about sports! Whoops, looks like I put up a picture of Rory and Lorelei instead. My bad. Anyway, below are our various sportsball stories from the last couple months. Football You guys all know I went to a nerd high school, right? Well, I did. I got my Associates degree at the same time as my HS diploma, thanks to this school. As a trade-off, my school didn't have organized arts or sports of any kind. I didn't really care that much about sports, so it didn't bother me at all (although not having a choir was sad.) However, all my people that went to the regular public high school would post on FB about the games they were going to, and again, I didn't care. I always figured I'd hit an AF High game eventually (maybe?) I did not plan on it being in Illinois. Well, life is full of surprises. Many happy things happened this day (Unfortunately, AF winning was not one of them.) 1. Popcorn was only a do

I Super Believe in You, Tad Cooper

Hey, extremely loyal McBrickers! Here are some things that have happened in the world since I blogged last: 1. Brad and Angelina broke up. What?! Hollywood is shaking on its hinges! (imagine a full K eye roll here.) 2. The Head and the Heart released a new album (YESSSS) 3. Harvey and Donna held hands on Suits and I'm so happy. 4. Worst Cooks in America is just getting more and more awesome with every season, I swear.  5. BYU women's soccer is on fire! (and so are the Cubs!) Here's some things we've done since I've blogged last: 1. Went to various sporting events (baseball, football, etc.) 2. Watched season 2 of Galavant (and it is spectacular, hence the Tad Cooper!) 3. Gotten completely into Fitz and the Tantrums (I know, I'm late to the party on this one.) 4. C started grad school, year two! More posts to come in the somewhat near future? -K

HC&M: Meh-rry Potter and the Cursed Child

Hey, people. My week, in a picture. Peruse below. Happy -Went to a White Sox game last Friday. That deserves a post in and of itself due to the intense nature of the game. Two words: Superhero Night. Get excited. -Me and C have already pretty much decided on our Halloween costumes (which is dumb, because we're adults, and we have nothing to dress up for, but whatever.) We'll see if we act on our ideas but at least we have an idea... We've never dressed up since we've been married. But then again, ever since my college years I've never really been into the whole dressing up deal (with the exception of junior year, where I wore a tattoo sleeve to class/work all day and painted my nails black. That was awesome. Oh, and I was a Nerd Herder sophomore year. That costume was awesome. I can't find the tie to wear it again though :( I'm just hoping that this "costume" isn't too "casual" for work. And if so TOO BAD, IT'S HAL

Podcast Quest

Image
Hey people! Since my afternoon boss resigned and no longer works in my office, I'm all alone in a big office all afternoon long. I try to fill the silence with music, but sometimes when I'm just bored of Spotify I try podcasts. I'm currently in the search for a new podcast to listen to. I've tried "Stuff You Should Know", and while it's okay, I get bored of their voices, and sometimes the "stuff you should know" is just flat-out not interesting. Today I'm trying "Call Your Girlfriend", and while it does have that best-friends-hanging-out-over-the-phone vibe, they're incredibly liberal and I'm not really sure it's for me. But I do enjoy when they talk about things that *aren't* politics. So, we'll see. C listens to "Nightside" on KSL radio, and they can be okay, but I get tired of their voices too. So, this paragraph was to tell you I still haven't found a podcast that I like, and I'm open to s

Hola, amigos/gringos... Today's my last day not working on a Friday. Next week I move to a five-day workweek again (gag.) I love this four days a week thing. My sisters visited last week! They were quick to remind me that their trip must be blogged about, so that's coming soon. It was great to have them here. They taught me how to Dutch braid and I taught them about Illinois. We spent a lot of nights just hanging out, talking about nothing and everything. It was awesome. I miss them. The apartment is a lot quieter now. And less full of stuff. (They were great houseguests and packed light, but still, we were definitely pushing the limit for how many people we could fit in here.) My friends all had their babies! And they're all cute. Good job, friends. Me and C are still debating on what/if we'll participate in our ward talent show. We'd like to do something funny, but not stupid. It's a fine line to walk. The sisters helped us brainstorm while they were o

Well friends, here we are, over two weeks later again. I'm really losing steam with this blogging thing. Chicago's been in a heat wave recently, so I spent all of yesterday sitting in front of our window AC and cursing the heat/humidity. It's awful. I am counting the days until Christmas. But then again, that's nothing new. Happy -Remember how in the last post we went to a Sox game? Well, C filled out the survey they sent after, and they gave us some free tickets! Sadly, they're the same night of the Opening Ceremonies in Rio. We'll have to watch them afterwards, I guess. But our game will have fireworks, so that will be fun. -C is an official intern for City of Chicago! Well, he will be as soon as his fingerprint and background check come back clean. We spent a few hours at the outlet mall last week getting him some more nice collared shirts and ties for him to wear. He'll be working on some really cool projects, with real-world data! This will be a gre

K, C, and another K Attend a White Sox Game

Image
Well, as promised, we attended a White Sox game on the 4th of July at Cellular Field. We didn't take as many pictures this time, but it was still fun. Baseball in person is MUCH better than baseball on TV. Also, C has taken to printing out the game notes for me before each game we go to, and then asks me to tell him random facts and stats throughout the game, which makes it much more fun for me. It makes me feel like I have more of a purpose during the game, as opposed to sitting and doing nothing. Plus, you can use the margins for doodling! At least, I do. Happy Things: 1. Usually it's just me and C at games. This time, we had C's friend K with us, which was fun. He bought bacon on a stick and let us try some. It was great! I also got popcorn (obviously.) 2. The people selling stuff in the stands sell a bigger variety of stuff than they do at Wrigley. The only thing you can get in the stands at Wrigley are hot dogs and beer, but at the Cell you can get popcorn, co

Music & JAMN

Image
Anyone else just having a bleh day today? I think mine stems from the fact that the Fourth is coming up, and that's usually such a fun holiday in Utah. I miss living so close to the Stadium of Fire (although with Tim McGraw headlining this year, I'm not as sad. Haha. My hatred for country music is still strong as ever!) Oh, you want to know what I'm jamming to now, you ask? Well, it has been awhile since a music post... What K is Listening To Now First off, these all come straight off my Spotify "You Can Do It!!!" playlist. I play it whenever I'm driving to work, because I need a ton of motivation to walk into work sometimes. 1. Left Hand Free, alt+J Well, my left hand's free... I just want to say, first off, that I totally knew this song/loved this song/listened to this song WAY before Civil War came out. #hipster First it hit my Pandora, then it hit a Suits episode. Ah. Suits. Coming back soon! 2. Lean On, Major Lazer  Blow a ki

K Returns to Her Native Land

Image
That's right, I was in Utah (AKA The Promised Land) about a month ago for a few days. One of my sisters graduated from high school, one got her endowments out, and one got a prestigious award, given to only four students in the sixth grade. So, basically, my family is awesome and I am obviously the weak link in the awesome chain...except that I have a BLOG so clearly I am also awesome. And I apologize to all the people I left hanging since the Cubs post. (Since that time, I have learned that the majority of my coworkers are White Sox fans. I'm not sure why. I guess because tickets are cheaper..? Apparently we're going to a White Sox game sometime in early July so I'll keep everyone posted.) Regardless, it's been awhile, so I made sure this post had tons of pictures to make up for it. Important Things that Happened: 1. R's Graduation She's in the first three rows, somewhere... R graduated like the champion she is, with all sorts of cords and meda
