K, C, and another K Attend a White Sox Game

Well, as promised, we attended a White Sox game on the 4th of July at Cellular Field. We didn't take as many pictures this time, but it was still fun. Baseball in person is MUCH better than baseball on TV. Also, C has taken to printing out the game notes for me before each game we go to, and then asks me to tell him random facts and stats throughout the game, which makes it much more fun for me. It makes me feel like I have more of a purpose during the game, as opposed to sitting and doing nothing. Plus, you can use the margins for doodling! At least, I do.

Happy Things:

1. Usually it's just me and C at games. This time, we had C's friend K with us, which was fun. He bought bacon on a stick and let us try some. It was great! I also got popcorn (obviously.)

2. The people selling stuff in the stands sell a bigger variety of stuff than they do at Wrigley. The only thing you can get in the stands at Wrigley are hot dogs and beer, but at the Cell you can get popcorn, cotton candy, and Dippin' Dots. No real ice cream though :( In fact, they weren't selling ice cream anywhere in the stadium that day. C asked like five different stands that usually had it. It was dumb. Whatever. I didn't want them to give me my ice cream in a little cup shaped like a batting practice helmet anyway. *cries*

3. It's much easier to get to the Cell than Wrigley. You have to ride a train AND a bus to get to Wrigley, and you all know how much I love public transportation. You can just take the freeway for like half an hour to get to the Cell, and it's right off the freeway. Easy to get to. Lots of parking. I mean, you have to pay for it, but the tickets are so cheap it evens itself out.

4. The Cell is bigger than Wrigley, which translates to it hardly ever selling out, which translates to more room! I love having an empty seat on the side of me. Much more comfortable. And we were in the cheap seats, so there was quite a bit of room around us (especially when everyone started leaving around the 8th inning.)

6. The Sox won! And the Yankees lost! Much like my mom's hatred for the Lakers transferred to me unconsciously, C's hatred of the Yankees has also transferred over. Also, the pitcher for the Yankees was a chubbier guy who didn't like to run very much. Endless entertainment!

7. The salutes to veterans were really great. They had a veteran throw the first pitch, and he did awesome. Straight to the catcher, which is more than the guy I saw throw the first pitch at Wrigley can say. They also had lots of veterans they introduced between innings down on the field, which was really thoughtful. They also had a bunch of motorbikers with flags on the back zooming around the perimeter of the outfield in pre-game. It was pretty cool.

8. REO Speedwagon sang the National Anthem - it was awesome. Even if you don't like REO Speedwagon.

Bleh Things:

1. No ice cream (as mentioned before).

2. There's not really a *vibe* about the Cell. At Wrigley you feel like everywhere you look, there's history, and you don't get that at Cellular Field. It's still a nice ballpark, but there's just not a lot of charm like there is at Wrigley.

3. Sox branding. Other K informed me that it's one of the most classical-looking logos in MLB but I still don't think it looks as good as the Cubs brand. Personal opinion. But because it was the Fourth they were wearing bright red socks and hats, and their uniforms had red accents. It was fun to see them all decked out with a color they don't normally wear.

Pictures?

Batting practice before the game.

Spot the pinwheels! C: "The pinwheels pay homage to their old scoreboard in Comisky Park (their old field). Every time the Sox scored a run they would shoot off lots of fireworks, and the pinwheels were put up to hide the firework shooters." And they still shoot fireworks out of them when the Sox score. Pretty awesome.
Their pre-game dirt-watering rituals are less intense than the Cubs'.

Still working on the curling rod thing. Making improvements though.

Callin and the patriotic motorcycle people!

Yay for the fat man pitcher!

So, cross another item off the Chicago list.
