Derpy the Fish
Happy Saturday, people! Usually I feel like the weeks just crawl along. And this one has, for sure. But I think it's crawled a little faster than usual. Yay!
Everyone be proud of us. We also tried to be social last week, we really did. A couple invited us over to make potstickers with them, and it was on Friday night, which is hard for us (C's got L&F meetings until later) but we were like you know what, we'll make it work. So C got off his train on a different stop that was closer to the house the party was in, and so I had to find it. My GPS said I'd gotten there, only I was staring at a car wash and a row of crappy apartment buildings, with a train station nowhere in sight. So I got to do my favorite thing, which is driving around trying to find something. I hate driving in Chicago. It's crap. But I eventually found C at a random Walgreens, and then we made our way to the potsticker party... We were an hour late, but I had warned them ahead of time. So I'm like okay. We've got this! We're close! GPS says it's only like 10 minutes away! Only, we couldn't find the house, because the address they'd given us was to a bank that was all creepily boarded up. So we drove around for another half hour to try and find this house, which proved unfindable. Nobody was answering their phones, their texts, or their smoke signals, so we couldn't figure out what the actual address was. I was starving, C was starving, and things were reaching Donner Party level, so we went and got some Tasty World and went home and watched the men's volleyball game. We tried! I swear. Like - we're trying to meet people out here. We really are. But what the heck?!
I think we've come up with a name for our fish, at least for the time being. How's Derpy sound to you? It seems to fit our little fish rather well. He's just a little derp. Name shoutout goes to R for actually teaching me what "derpy" means. It was also his month-iversary last week! We are successfully raising a baby fish! I haven't felt so proud in a long time.
I finished Go Set a Watchman on Monday and I have so many feelings. I need to talk to someone about these before I explode! Has anyone read this??? Please!!! Help a fellow reader out.
My next goal is to somehow acquire all the Harry Potters that I'm missing in my collection. I brought 3 with me because it's my favorite, I forgot 4 at my parent's house, and I don't own any of the others :/ I can buy a boxed paperback set on Amazon for like $50 but I reeeeeally like my hardcover editions. They're more expensive, but they'll last so much longer. I'm torn. I really want the HPs, but I'm not ponying up like $100 just to get all the books right now... I think I'll start looking for gently used ones for sale at the library. Believe me, there is nothing better than a new book, and I crave that new book smell even more than Reese's sometimes, but you've got to do what you've got to do. I need that collection. It's my childhood. It's everything. I mean, add that series to the Little House on the Prairie series, the Chronicles of Narnia, and basically every book ever written, and you'll have me as as child. Maybe not *every* book ever written, but basically most books on the shelves of the PG Library. Haha. I had friends as a child. I promise. And no, not all of them were fictional, thanks for asking.
I just got back into the writing idea I'm working on, and I'm excited! Yet, I still have issues with the fact that I have no story, just scenes in my head I write down that have no correlation whatsoever. What the heck am I supposed to do with those...? I'll figure something out eventually.
I'm wearing my Duke Silver t-shirt today, which was a great life choice. We already hit the grocery store and Michael's today so I could pick up some more cross-stitch thread. My kit didn't have enough white thread in it, which was dumb. But we're good now. #boring
Happy weekend, everyone!

That sounds like the most frustrating escapade ever. I hate when you take a leap to be social and then it just bombs like that. Super discouraging but I'm so proud of you for trying!!!
ReplyDeleteDerpy: I approve.
I'd hit up thriftbooks.com if I were you. They have really gently used items and I bet you could find hard cover HP books there no problem. And if they don't have some in stock you can sign up and they'll email you once they get new copies.
